So…. you know how in my last post I told you about carrying a lot of stuff plus Stella with no stroller, etc? Yeah, well on that fateful day the obsession began. The bag that enabled me to carry all that and still carry Stella was the one below:
Rebecca Minkoff Supernova Stud Nikki
I have been thinking of getting a Nikki (the model without studs) for a while, and decided to rent one from Avelle for a “test-drive”, to see how I liked it. Well, I liked it alright. After 1 week of use the bag got nice and soft, bringing it to the ideal shape for someone who loves big, slouchy bags (like yours truly.)
The strap is nice and wide, so it doesn’t slide off your shoulder all the time. And even when it does, it looks cute in the crook of your arm, too.
I tell you, this bag fits a lot of stuff. And it looks as nice with jeans and a tee as with a cute dress and wedges.
So I have been working on my husband (that sounds dirty – truly, it mostly involves me being very annoying) to get me one for my birthday ever since. And he decreed that if I can find one on sale for $400 or under, I can have it. So the past few days I have been googling like mad. Hence the lack of posts. You forgive me, right? Just look at it – it makes for a great excuse
I made a ton of tiramisu’ this weekend: a platter for DH’s birthday/Father’s Day on Sunday, and a platter to bring to our friend R.’s house, since he invited us over for raclette (I know, not the lightest fare this weekend.) Despite the fact that I gave the rest away to a neighbour and my friend V., there’s still a little left… about 2 portions. And it’s just staring at me, every time I open the fridge. How am I supposed to focus on my diet with the deliciousness just right there? I can only think of one solution: it must be eaten. And since I’m alone with Stella, it comes down to us. I know, tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.

I’m on an 80s kick these days. And no, I don’t mean in the “blue eyeshadow and fluerescent leggings” way – you know how I feel about that
But the movies… so many good movies in the 80s! I was born in 1976, so I missed the romatic comedies from the early 80s, all the various Sixteen Candles and the rest of Molly Ringwald’s movies… so I started ordering them from Netflix. Last week I saw Less than Zero (Robert Downey Jr and songs by The Bangles? Awesomeness) and Pretty in Pink, both of them with Andrew McCarthy. When the only memory you have of Andrew Mc Carthy is of him as his much older self, as part of the cast of Lipstick Jungle, you know it’s time to go back and watch some vintage TV… he was much cuter then*! Ditto with James Spader, who is also in both movies – another good reason to watch them both ![]()
Next on the list:
- The Breakfast Club (I know, I’m now addicted to Brat Pack movies)
- When Harry Met Sally (never saw the whole thing)
- Blade Runner (really didn’t get it the first time around – I was 6)
- Tootsie
- Sex, Lies and Videotape
- Sophie’s Choice
And I might just include my 80s favorites, like Back to the Future and The Shining.
What are your favorite 80s movies?
*which isn’t to say he isn’t good looking now. Plus, let’s face it, Robert Buckley pretty much stole the show on Lipstick Jungle
