What do you wear if you have a doctor’s appointment followed by a coffee date? And if it’s such a nice day you’ll probably add a walk and a spot of window shopping to the list?
Well, if you are anything like me, something comfortable, but fairly polished. Not too polished mind you, because you don’t want it to to be so dull that you’ll fall asleep just by checking your outfit in the mirror. Just polished enough for the doctor to tone down the patronizing tone a bit. Maybe add a touch of spring trends? Not all of them, pick one. Stripes? Done. And then something interesting, something to add an unexpected touch… if you know me at all, you know that likely means studs. What can I say, I love adding an edgy touch to outfits where you woulnd’t expect it. Nothing strange then, if I added a studded bag (like the one below, but as you know mine is grey) to an otherwise perfectly respectable outfit, some might say even on the conservative side. Not anymore, it isn’t. Not with the studded bucket bag

Stripes have a little bit of “in your face” quality (as do all prints), so a little goes long way; and because stripes on a large chest are worth of some second-guessing, the cardi is perfect – half-buttoned up, it will show a peek of stripes, using them to your advantage: closing the central buttons highlights the smallest part of your waist, and the white of the stripes brings the eye upwards. (And this cardigan, a recent and very affordable addition to my wardrobe, is already one of my favorite pieces, because the shirring on the shoulder balances my wide hips nicely.)
A long necklace also counteracts the widening effect of the stripes by breaking them vertically and creating a long line – right now I love corsage necklaces, they are so flirty and fun and will add a feminine touch to any outfit. And then of course my trusty Reva flats, which are a girl’s best friend year-round, but especially so in spring and fall.
Have you given in to stripes yet? Come on, you know you want to
