October wrap-up

by Elisa on October 31, 2011

in random

It is finally over. Not that I have anything against October, but it wasn’t the easiest month to get through. Sascha was gone for 3 weeks, which made two weeks of fall break a bit of a drag, especially since one of those week I was out of commission with the flu.

Still, I managed. And here’s what I’ve been up to:

Reading: the first book of the fantasy series “A song of Ice and Fire”, by George R.R. Martin. I watched the HBO series “A Game of Thrones” (based on the book) and I liked it so much that I decided to download volume 1 on my Kindle, and I have to say… it’s awesome. Epic fantasy at its best – yes, even better than The Lord of the Rings! (at least in my personal opinion.)

Listening to: Mylo Xyloto, the new Coldplay CD. My favorite song on the CD right now is “Princess of China” – turns out Chris Martin and Rihanna are a match made in Heaven. Who knew? And just in case you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the video of the latest single from the CD: Paradise.

Craving: a new pair of biker boots. My lovelies are kaput, so I am on the market for a replacement. These made the short list:

Eating: spicy chicken soup, perfect for chilly fall evenings, but by no means reminiscing hospital food!
Here’s how I make mine: toss 2-4 chicken breasts in your pressure cooker, add 1 package of frozen broccoli, 2-3 chopped cloves or garlic, a chopped yellow onion, 1 heaping Tbsp of a good no-MSGvegetable broth paste (I like Morga), 2 bay leaves, a chopped carrot, 1 chipotle chile in adobo sauce.
Fill with water, close, seal, once it starts whistling let it cook for 30-40 minutes, then shred the chicken. Serve with cooked brown rice and additional adobo sauce to taste.

Drinking: lots of Earl Grey tea. I LOVE Early Grey! For years I tried all the brands and versions I could get my hands on and in the end, I found the best one… in Sainsbury’s, during a short stay in the UK. The store brand is the absolute best Earl Grey tea I have ever had, and so affordable! And I was hooked. I am also lucky ’cause my British friends know of my addiction so they keep me stocked up :-)

Loving: suede and sequins, among other things.

Wondering:  if you’ll be getting in line on November 17 for Versace for H&M. Pray tell!

A short walk in Baden

by Elisa on October 23, 2011

in ramblings,random,Switzerland

Some fall days are made to go out and just be out. Just to enjoy being outdoors, enjoy a sunny day without the sweltering heat, and especially walk through a lovely park while it’s still luscious and green, before the cold weather spoils it all.
Baden - Grand Casino parkSome days also seem made to give things a second chance. Sometime I’ll tell you about Baden, where these photos were taken. I’ll tell you why I  could never warm up to it, why I usually avoid it.

But today, I’ll just tell you that I realized that sometimes we need to give things (and people) a second chance.

Baden - Grand Casino park

Sometimes we need to just give ourselves carte blanche to look around us and see everything as if it was the first time.

Baden - Church on Bahnhofplatz

I watch Stella sometimes, and I see how excited she can get about things, no matter how simple, no matter if she’s seen it and done it before. I want to do that. And I can’t think of a better day to start.
