A few weeks ago, while browsing through a newly renovated H&M, I saw a really cute dress. It was just adorable, girly but a little quirky, with elliptical polka dots shadowed in purple on a navy background, and a coral sash. On a whim, I grabbed it and tried it on, and ended up purchasing it.
I later found out that the same dress I had just bought was sold out in the US after the First Lady wore it for a TV appearance.

Her stylist added sleeves to the dress, then accessorized it by replacing the sash with a wide orange belt and yellow pumps.
I however liked the dress as it was: sleeveless, with the coral sash. Of course I wanted to add my own spin to it, so I knew I’d have to pay particular attention to the accessories. The perfect opportunity came during my London trip, when, while shopping at Selfridges, I spotted a pair of beautiful suede platform sandals that reminded me of a pair of Miu Miu sandals I had been listing after for a couple of years. But unlike the Miu Mius, I could actually afford these ones, so I bough them.
The final outfit looked something like this:
I separated the necklaces and used the faux-pearl strand as a choker, and I also ended up carrying my burgundy Sasha satchel for most of the day because hello, you cannot fit anything into a clutch. I also swapped my sky-high heels for ballet flats as the time to dance approached, but unfortunately not before slipping and – gasp! – falling, thereby proving with absolute certainty that gravel and high heels don’t mix.
What kept me from dying of embarrassment was the fact that it was a wedding, a lovely one in fact, and there were certainly more interesting things to look at. ’cause surely, nobody would dwell on thoughts of the silly woman who wore inappropriately high (but fabulous!) shoes when their breath is being taken away from the arrival of the gorgeous bride, by the beautiful vows, and by the chance to share in this moment:
Right?
