There are some peculiar pairings in the world. And I’m all for experimenting with new combinations, because often you’ll find two things that work unexpectedly well together. Take peanut butter and bananas. Yum. Or coconut milk and spicy curry. Yum again.
Ok, let’s move away from food as a topic and go back to fashion. Fashion is largely about experimenting. Trying things out to see if they work for you, or if they work together… what would fashion be without the greats who decided to try something new?
But sometimes there’s a new experiment that makes you visualize yourself screaming “Noooooo!” in slow motion, with your face panicked and your voice going all low and weird, like in a horror movie. And that, ladies and gentleman, is where I’d like to introduce the Jimmy Choo for Ugg collection – one that fashion fans all over the world heard about months ago, but that most of us filed in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” category.
I could understand the reasoning behind it: Uggs are seen as ugly and graceless, losing popularity as the “just rolled out of bed” trend that also included velour tracksuits thankfully proceeds on its way out; what better brand to give them a makeover than the ultimate in sexy shoes – Jimmy Choo? Sure, I can imagine how someone could come up with the idea, but it blew my mind how Miss Mellon and the other bright minds behind Jimmy Choo actually went for it. I just wasn’t sure it was something that would make much sense on a practical level. And so, like everyone else, I waited.
Alas, it actually did happen, and the results are now available for pre-order. Behold:

The Jimmy Choo for Ugg boots feature the classic shapeless form and sheepskin; however they are decorated with fringes, animal prints and studs.
Now, you know how much I like a healthy helping of studs. But this… this is an abomination. Especially the star-shaped studs. Seriously, star shaped studs? So when you think of making Uggs better, you think of star-shaped studs??? I’ll venture to say that it might actually make them look even worse..

I know that there are many people who love love love Uggs. And I have to admit that I think they look cute on toddlers, so I bought Stella a pair of Ugg-inspired boots. (Ok, two. One in beige and one in purple. But in my defense, they were 15 bucks at H&M and they looked adorable with leggings.)
But on a grown woman? (And that includes you, 20-year olds. Not kiddies anymore, are ya?) Nonononono. I can hear a chorus of “but they are so comfortable!” Yes they are. So are flannel pjs. But they are not for going out in public either, right? (I can pick up a hesitation. Repeat after me: “No, they are not.”)
And let’s talk about the price: these boots are all between € 425 and € 725, with the majority costing € 525. Call me silly but that’s almost a slap in the face.
Which is why now that I got it off my chest I will do my best to forget this collection ever existed so it doesn’t blemish my image of the Jimmy Choo brand, and I can go back to lusting after the sexy edgy stilettos (like the ones in my signature!) undisturbed.
What about you?

We all want to look good. And sometimes it requires more effort than others. Some things make it harder to achieve glamour.
