In exactly one month I will be celebrating my birthday.

I have never liked birthday parties much – with the exception of when I was a little girl, I always preferred intimate celebrations for my birthday. It seemed egocentric and self-involved for people to organize bashes for their own birthdays. Now I feel like maybe it’s just about me not having valued myself enough for the past 10 years to want to do that for myself. Now I believe I am worthy of a little celebration, if I’m so inclined. That it’s ok to want to celebrate the fact that I’m still here and while not perfect, I’m healthy and relatively happy. Now it feels ok to admit that, and to want to share it with the people I love and who love me. Now I feel it’s ok to organize a bit of a bash for it, and have fun with it.

I would like to have it outside in the backyard, to enjoy the green and the cool air when evening comes.

I would like to decorate simply, with small vases of wild flowers and bright napkins, and hang a string of fairy lights on the patio, and light lots of candles.

I would like to have lots of delicious finger food and tapas, things people can enjoy while talking and even dancing.

I would like to have a cocktail or two, maybe a bowl of sangria (such a great drink for summer nights!) and lots of options for those who don’t want to consume alcohol.

On the other hand, I am a very nervous hostess, so I don’t know if I’ll end up really doing this – but a girl has the right to change her mind, right? At least as long as the invitations haven’t been sent yet ;-)

Barbie talking palette by StilaReady for the Cool Finds of the Month?

Let’s see what we’ve got this month, shall we? ;-)

Looking for that accessories that are inexpensive enough and casual enough to wear every day, but also fun and edgy enough to spice up a simple outfit? Check out Etsy.com. If you are anything like me, you stay away from anything handmade because the term brings to mind plastic bead necklaces, doilies and crochet pillowcases. But truth is, there are also really talented jewelry makers and tailors on Etsy, and all it takes is a search and a bit of patience. Go through the results and you’re bound to find something you love. My current favorite? TenThings. I found Kerri browsing through Etsy, and I have been obsessed with her creations since. So much so, than I asked her to sponsor my Blogiversary Giveaway, and immediately thought of her Etsy store when it came to select a few special accessories for BlogHer. Check it out, and keep looking on Etsy! It’s a treasure trove, I tell you :-)

Next time you are craving ethnic food, head to Destination dinners: their recipe packages include special ingredients, a shopping list of the basics needed, and a recipe. It’s a cooking class and takeout on a budget rolled into one. And anything including Pad Thai is a shoo-in, as far as I’m concerned!

LunaBoston is one of my favorite online boutiques, together with ShopBop. I love that when I get their newsletter I can find out about the latest accessory trends and already know where I can get the items I like most – shopping is fun, but as a busy mom I like to waste as little time as possible ;-) For instance, this month they had some awesome studded belts (see one on the left), which would be perfect to cinch the waist of the summer dresses I bought! Go to your favorite online boutique, or ask your favorite store if they have a website, and you’ll be able to keep up-to-date without doing much of anything!

More fashion and accessories: Coach just launched Poppy, their young fashion line. It includes graphic tees, sparkly flats and some really fun accessories! I love the graphic ties and pony tail holders.

And speaking of fashion and shopping, you probably already know about RueLaLa, the private sale website. But have you heard of the changes? Good news from now on we can enjoy the following when shopping on RueLaLa: a mobile version of the website, free standard shipping on the second and subsequent purchases you make on the same day, free return shipping, a personalized invite link and… yay! a better look at upcoming collections, so you know which ones you should definitely mark on your calendar and be ready right at 11am for ;-) Right now they have the following sales happening: Juicy Couture (apparel, shoes, handbags, accessories), Andrea Candela (jewelry), Siegerson Morrison (shoes) and Orrefors (glassware and giftware).

More sales! (it’s the least I can do since I skipped Insider Shopping this month…) Today and tomorrow only, get an extra 25% off all Tory Burch sale merchandise by using code SALE25 at checkout.

If you are trying to figure out how much sun is ok, check out the UV SunSense bracelets. Apply a dab of sunscreen when you are applying it to your body, and the bracelt will turn purple when it’s time to re-apply it. But watch it carefully: when it turns brown, that means you’ve had enough rays for one day and it’s time to take cover. They come in packs of 7 and you can get them on Amazon.com for less than $6.

And last but not least, a new, awesome website: Covet helps you find your style and find items in your size, style and budget. Just tell the program what you like and it will come up with style combinations and suggestions – after that just input some info about yourself, and you’ll have taken a huge step in saving time and money… shopping is so much more fun when it’s spot-on!- Scary Mommy gives us a lesson in blogging etiquette

- …. and ProBlogger explains how NOT to get a spot as guest blogger.

- Lauren tells us how to choose a necklace to wear with our outfit.

- Freda shares a few reflections about building rapport with our children.

- Nan from Five Moms and a Blog shares a few universal bits of knowledge common to mothers :-)

This ends the Cool Finds for this month! Please remember, my Cool Finds are not sponsored. I just like to share my latest favorites with you! I hope you enjoyed it. As usual, if you want to suggest something to be included in the next installment of Cool Finds of The Month, e-mail me or send me a Tweet!
