My husband doesn’t like wall clocks. He doesn’t see the point of them. “So?” I say “Not every item you choose for your decor has to have a point, you know.” Nothing. He doesn’t budge.

I bet he’d like this one though:

Isn’t it cool? It’s called QlockTwo, it was presented at the Design Expo in Zurich this past November.
Pascal, from Fashion Bits and Bobs, was there and took some great pictures, which is where I peeked this and I just HAD to look into it!

QlockTwo comes in a variety of colors and languages. So you, could say, get the English version in Frozen Blackberry, above, or the German version in Cherry Cake:

Or the French version in Lime Juice:

So many combinations! Ah, so fun. Of course the price isn’t exactly something to sneeze at, but it’s still awesome.

You can find it here. And if you can’t afford the real thing, for 99 cents you can get the iPhone app.

A room of my own

The moving madness has started. The move is becoming more and more real, but rather than looming at the horizon, now it seems to open up a new one. I’m starting to feel that excitement, that thrill I feel when a new adventure awaits.

A move is always exciting, even if it’s a move back home. We don’t own a house in Switzerland, so a move means a new apartment. And the apartment we found is exactly what I wanted, in the area I wanted it in. I love that area of Zurich so much. The thought of going back to live there… wait, could it be? Could I actually be missing Switzerland?

Ok, yes, I do a bit. After all, it’s a beautiful country. It’s clean, well-organized and lovely to look at. As for the more unpleasant aspects, when the conservatism feels too much for me, I can always take a trip. Switzerland is nicely positioned, basically in the middle of Europe, from where you can easily drive to Germany, Italy, Austria and France. And London is only a couple of hours by plane.

Which got me thinking, once again, that when we finally settle down and decide to buy a house, Switzerland might be the right place to do it. I reserve to change my mind a few more times about this, and I know I will after the first month there, which will probably be a bit of an adjustment.

But for now, I just want to enjoy thinking of what kind of house I’d like. I know I wouldn’t want something too big, because considering my lack of proficiency for household duties, I would probably end up resenting it, rather than enjoying it. But I would want enough space for all of us of course, and a nice guestroom for our family and friends to stay in when they visit.

And I know for sure I would want a room just for me. I’d probably call it my office, but it would be more than that.

It would be my space, so it would be decorated to my taste, in colors I love.

It would be a place to relax and collect my thoughts, a place to go when I need space, so I would want something comfortable, even cozy, like a big squishy armchair, with a nice throw and a big lamp for when I want to read or study in peace.

I would also want a desk and comfortable chair, for when I want to write – and for when I want to to some research to figure out what to buy my husband for Christmas or for his birthday :-)

On my desk I would have all my favorite writing things: beautiful stationery, some nice pens, a gorgeous journal, maybe leather bound. And something pretty and decorative, like antique glass sugar bowls to store paperclips and rubberbands in.

I would hang my favorite art on the walls, probably something fantasy-related, by Amy Brown or Jessica Galbreth, something with faeries, maybe dragons – not just because I like them, but because any space where you read and write needs some magic, a whimsical touch.

I would like for the room to have a big window with a nice view, for when I need to feel inspired or I need something to put me in a good mood.

I would like a CD player in it, and my favorite CDs. And a bookshelf with my favorite books, of course.

Ideally I would also have some wine chilling somewhere, too – but I think that may be a stretch. Also because if I start adding wine or chocolate, this may be a room I end up living in ;-)
