blogging

If you are a blogger based somewhere in Europe, chances are you have found yourself wondering why we don’t have all the fun stuff US bloggers have. All the conferences, and the PR contacts, and the shopping events especially for us, and all that jazz. Well, of course it’s because things always move faster in the US, whereas in most of Europe they sometimes seem to move at glacial pace… are we stuck on traditional things? On the old ways? Hmm… maybe. As a continent with a lot of history, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Except when it prevents progress, and expansion, and… fun. I have nothing against doing things the same way as long as it doesn’t become an interminable bore.

Ideally, this post would be telling you that I’m organizing our own edition of BlogHer, BlogHer Europe… ah, a girl can dream, can’t she? But also, we’ve got to start somewhere. So how about having at least a place where all European bloggers can meet, connect, find each other, maybe come up with some fun stuff? Not just Swiss Bloggers, not just UK bloggers, but somewhere bloggers from all European countries can join, chat, connect, network.

So here it is: it’s called This Side of the Pond, and it’s a Ning network. It’s free to join, so how about you go there right now and join your fellow bloggers? Get the ball rolling? Once there’s a bunch of us on, the fun isn’t far behind, I bet ;-)

Inspiration boards

I know I’m not alone when I admit I am somewhat Resolution-challenged.

Not that I have any trouble coming up with a list of things to do – oh no, that’s never an issue. The issue is that I task myself with things that REALLY need to be tackled to get done, because I’m not happy with smaller goals, because I’m an “all-or-nothing” person. Add to that the fact that I’m basically a champion procrastinator, and that I have a little brat and a bigger “sometimes”-brat to distract me, and the never-ending NYC-nostalgia to take away any spark of motivation I can gather some days, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. If by disaster we mean “not a bloody thing getting done”. So there you have it.

In an effort to handle this, and inspired by a project a bunch of bloggers did recently, I have decided to do monthly resolutions, and compile them in an inspiration board at the beginning of each month, right here for everyone to see. I’m hoping that the graphics and the smaller time frame will help me keep focused and inspired, and that posting it here will make me feel accountable for actually getting the stuff done.

Also, I recently saw a brilliant video on another expat’s blog, on how to have more fun. And, well, adding pretty pictures and making a virtual collage of sorts definitely adds fun to setting goals, don’t you think?

What was the video, you ask? Why, you can see it with you own eyes:
