Winter? Nah.

Today I woke up, and there was snow on the ground. And the on trees.
My first words “Oh, heck no”.
You see, this is the second time in about a week that I find snow on the ground when I wake up in the morning, and I started thinking that maybe Winter, which has been unusually mild this year in Zurich, might have finally caught up with us — which would force me to dust off the snow boots I bought last year and never actually wore (unless you count a quick walk in the backyard to soak up some rare winter sun) and pull out one of the unused puffer-jackets from the back of my closet to see if it still fits (or if I could make myself wear it).

But alas, just like the last time, by late afternoon the snow had melted, to my great relief. It’s still chilly out, but we already see signs of spring, like snowbells on the grass, the first blossoms, and even a butterfly here and there.
I was able to get through an entire winter wearing a heavy coat only a handful of times, and while I am 90% horrified about it, because the extent to which global warming is changing things is really freaky, I will freely admit to the existence of that selfish 10% that is relieved not to have had to dress like a yeti at all. That same selfish 10% also believes that this requires a small celebration, and I’m thinking a new spring jacket might just fit the bill.

My first thought: a biker jacket, of course. But because it’s a spring purchase, I will step a little out of my usual and consider a color other than black. Like tan — warm, neutral, works year-round… tan would be a good choice, don’t you think?

A few ways to wear a biker jacket

Yes, I’d love a tan biker jacket. It only took a quick browse to cyber-stumble upon this one, by Just think of everything this can be worn with! My mind is bubbling with outfit possibilities. A biker jacket is perfect for a night out, to give that LBD a bit of attitude, a bit of “What, this? I just threw this together” (by the way, that cute, super-versatile LBD above? It’s from Dorothy Perkins, and it’s also very affordable. You’re welcome.) It can also be a great day-to-day coat, something to throw on over skinnies and a tee, or to give a maxi dress a bit of structure. And the right biker jacket can make your outfit go from day to night when you don’t have time to mess around with it much because you have study/errands/appointments all day, but you also have a movie date in the evening… just refresh your mascara and swipe a bit of Fine-one-one on your cheeks, and you’re good to go 😉

What do you think? Is there space in your wardrobe for a biker jacket? Unless you already have one, in which case please share how you wear yours!

  • Love your choice, the color is great and I love the asymmetrical zipper. Great choice! Definitely great for day and night, fancy and casual. I don’t think I’m cool enough to pull off a biker jacket LOL.

Love the way you styled this jacket, Elisa! My wardrobe is lacking lately. Nursing friendly clothing, loose tops to hide the tum, and no desire to spend money on clothes is the name of the game right now, and I am in a rut. 🙁 but this little style set gives me a little ray of sunshine/hope…
