Ok, so it is that time of the year again… Fashion Week – unless you, like me, live somewhere completely outside of the fashion universe, where that time of the year comes after it’s over everywhere else. Ah, bless the outsiders looking in.
I was asked by a friend this year if I was going to attend Zurich Fashion Days, and my answer was a resounding NO. The reason is the same why I also didn’t attend last year, and why I don’t obsess over Fashion Week the way many self-proclaimed fashionistas do: because the reason I like fashion is simple: I like beautiful clothes, shoes, and accessories.
However is has become clear to me that nowadays Fashion Week/Days are less about the above and more about the shock value of the trappings involved in the show, and about people using the event to be being pretentious imbeciles, which is apparently a lot harder to pull off in day-to-day life, no matter what absurd, possibly Gaga-inspired outfit you wear.
*Takes deep breath*
Which brings me to the best prank ever, concocted by Jimmy Kimmel and the evil geniuses who work with him, on the crowds of wannabes buzzing around NYFW.
My favorite? “It’s called fashion, look it up” from the fashion victim on the right. I would bring up the pretentious imbeciles again, but it think the whole thing speaks for itself.
Happy Fashion Week, everyone!
P.S. This isn’t to say that everyone who attends is a dork – I think they just have a higher tolerance for the above than I do
