Pinspiration: summer fun (a.k.a. how to keep the girls busy for 6 weeks)

Aaaah, summer, where art thou?

I don’t know about you, but summer has been a big tease around here: a few days of hot weather, and then… no more. But still a hint of sun now and then, to give you the hope that you might actually get to go to the pool, or have a picnic, or do some of the other summery things that would make it easier to keep the girls entertained during the school break. Nope.

So I turned to Pinterest to find little things to do together each day that might work for both Sarah and Stella – no small feat, since their tastes vary greatly because of the age difference. But the almighty Pinterest never fails me; and thank goodness, because I can sure use some variety – there’s only so much Just Dance  and Design Studio I can play.

Here are a few things we added to our summer to-do list:

Cute manicures, ’cause that’s part of the fun in having girls… and being one :-)

Some baking, ’cause we have a sweet tooth (and the girls love presenting dad with freshly baked goods):

Popsicles and frozen goodies, ’cause DUH, it’s summer!

And some simple DIY, fun enough for the girls but easy enough for their craft-impaired mom (’cause as much as I’d love to make stuff like this, just looking at it makes my head hurt):

Now all I need is shop for the supplies, and I have some rainy day fun on hand!

If you have kids, how are you keeping them occupied/entertained this summer?

Also, anyone have an in with the weather gods? We could use some actual summer weather in these parts!

Hello Elisa, I do hope that you are feeling a lot better now, and got a bit of you mojo back, or maybe all of it . We have had NO summer, but then we are the Uk, no we do have some sun, but so wish it was more, feel a bit down because of it. Shame I didn’t live over near someone like you :-)

Wow your girls are going to have so much fun :-) the girly bit would be great.. my grandaughters love do girly.. age 5 and 3 and half .. nails painted and all that, doing my hair. Pinterest is certainly interesting (pun) I am loving it.

My good friend Sarah , who lives near me, has a ceramic shop where we go to decorate and design mugs, plates etc, money boxes you name it she normally has it .. did you see my little plate I did recently.

We could all do with sun, take care , get yourself over to the UK again and we should meet up :-) Take care anne

Hi Elisa,
Also being in the UK, we haven’t seen any summer yet. My kids are still at school here. But I do wonder what we will end up doing during the summer holidays. At least the holidays here aren’t 3 months long. Although having said that, we did manage to get through them in Italy, mostly by doing lots of swimming in the lake and hanging out with friends.

At least it’s only 6 weeks! I had 3 to 4 months back home when I was a student!

Oh yes painting ones nails is always a good idea when the weather is as bad as it has been these days! Thank you for all the inspiration!

If you have a word with the weather gods can you ask them to send some weather that mildly resembles summer and not autumn as this constant rain is NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Thanks :)

You should come to NY! I’ve never experienced a summer so warm. It’s actually too hot for my taste but it would probably be welcome for you. xoxo

We all need a bit of sun to lift our spirits but some baking and making should help things along nicely meantime.

Thanks for stopping by. Our blue skies have disappeared again, so cut holidays short and back to work 2 days early! How bad is it when work is a better alternative to annual leave?!

Hi, I was looking at those lace crowns a while back, but even that’s too crafty for me.
Love the “just looking at them makes my head hurt” part :-)
How many years apart are your daughters?
