OOTW: it’s hot, hot, hot

I recently read on an article about Zurich in the Travel section of the New York Times that “the Swiss have the annoying British tic of complaining about the weather year round. That is absolutely true, and so common that I often find myself using it as emergency small talk.

Personally, I find that Zurich (and Switzerland in general) is at its most beautiful in May, when the weather is warm enough to shed your winter layers but not too hot to stay out and walk around all day long. Unfortunately this year we apparently skipped spring and went from winter right into summer, so after much wait summer is finally here, with the sunny days, and the heat, and the outdoor pools – or swimming in the Zurich lake, if you are so inclined.

Which means that it’s the perfect weather for my Dorothy Perkins maxi dress to be worn as it was meant to: as part of an unfussy, relaxed, no-other-layers boho-inspired outfit:

Looks like a lot of items, however considering I wear my Satya necklace constantly (really, day and night) I got dressed in 5 minutes: slip dress on, headband to keep hair off face in the heat, silver cuff, put sandals on; grab my bag (I always carry a pair of sunglasses in it) and I was out out the door!

The bag is from Dorothy Perkins, it’s a great size with an extra-long strap and I love it. I also wore it here.

The cuff is by Tory Burch, you can find it here. It’s not the same exact one I wore, mine has elephants and etchings on it, my father bought it for me a few years ago from an Indian gentleman who was selling beautiful handmade silver and gemstone jewelry on the beach in Sardinia. I find that Indian silver jewelry is always beautifully made and so interesting.

What better outfit to wear on a day where I could use few errands as an excuse to spend the whole day out with my daughters? To have gelato and people-watch sitting on the grass at Pestalozzi square?

What do you like to do when it’s hot out?

Are maxi dresses your go-to hot weather outfit, too?

I like maxi dresses, but lately I’ve been wearing a lot of short-shorts, like they wouldn’t pass the “finger-tips length” rule at my old school. I also am glad to wear sandals every day.

I like a bit of bare leg. Say knee-down or just below. No short shorts here, but maxi dresses just seem too hot for me! And I would constantly trip over. They seem the dress equivalent of the stiletto heel (which I also can’t wear). I’m a clutz.

Looks beautiful. Can you believe I don’t even own ONE maxi dress? I know, what’s wrong with me, right?

Hello Elisa, as I’m from the Caribbean and its always hot here, I love going to the beach with my hubby and kids. I usually wear strapless, short cotton dresses. I love your Dorthy Perkins dress.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. Glad to have met you.

Luv Lisa xx

I am no where near as fun as you when it is too hot. I stay inside, in the air conditioning. :) I do live in the desert, though, and too hot here means like 115 degrees. :)

Also? That dress is adorable, and I love the bag! :)

I love your clock in the sidebar. It doesn’t look lik alot to me. Those a the accessories. lol I love these new halter top jumpers. They’re one piece with no straps. The are so cool to wear and refreshing. I’m an accessory girl to the nine. Chunky jewelry is my fave.

I love dresses in the summer. I can’t get away with a maxi dress. I am just too short.

Great cuff! I’m more about wearing anything non-clingy in the heat! Mostly sundresses and trapeze tops… I even pass on my beloved belts in the summer time!

I found 2 maxi dresses this week that are short enough even for me to wear (they fit so well I actually wonder if they’d fall too short on a lot of people). Walking to school this morning, my 3yo son said “I like that thing you wearing Mommy” so I’ll take that as meaning the dress is a success HAHA!
What I love best about this post is the little detail that your Dad bought you the bracelet you wore. My dad does stuff like that too – though his taste and mine often do not mesh – but I suspect a lot of adult women aren’t so lucky.
