It’s sale season. Soooo many pretty things everywhere! I just bought some cute bermuda shorts and a much-needed pair of wedges from Nordstrom’s sale section, have been lusting after satin motorcycle boots and platform sandals at Shopbop, and Net-A-Porter has a fantastic sale with items up to 70% off the original price!
And then there’s the Jimmy Choo sale. Which inevitably brings me to an in-depth browse through their collection – because who can stop at the sale section, in front of such bounty? Every time I visit that website I cannot help but ooh and aah over all the lovely sandals, and boots, and pumps, and and and… ok, you tell me if you don’t wish these beauties resided in your closet:
But as much as I love them and as much as I have been craving a fab new pair of heels, I realize I wouldn’t actually have space for them. I can almost hear you saying “Well, make space!” And that is exactly what I plan on doing.
See, as much as I LOVE shoes (and bags! and accessories!), I don’t believe in just accumulating stuff. As much as I love seeing those spreads in magazines about dream wardrobes with hundreds of shoes all lined up, I simply cannot see myself as the owner of hundreds of pairs of shoes.
As it is, I tend to always wear pretty much the same ones: the Revas, the Ash boots, the gladiators, the new peep-toe boots, and the nude BCBG platform pumps when I need a boost.
I have a couple more pairs of boots that also enter the rotation, and a pair of Kenneth Cole jeweled leather thong sandals for relaxed days. The rest pretty much just sits there. I still haven’t worn my Seattle strappy sandals from the Jimmy Choo for H&M line, because my evenings out always seem to include a ridiculous amount of walking for some reason, and the uneven pavements and cobblestone streets of Zurich do not go well with stilettos.
So today, ladies and gentleman, I tackled the project I started 6 months ago by tossing two cute pairs of shoes that I hadn’t used in at least 2 years in the donation box: I took all my shoes out of the boxes, tried them on, quickly rated them based on fit, comfort, and whether I could remember the last time I wore them, and consequently ruled on the destiny of each pair.
Here are the ones that didn’t make the cut:
From the back: black and red Cube maryjanes, Fornarina red canvas wedges, Xilaration black patent peep-toes; and in the front: Betty Flower black leather peep-toe wedges, Steve Madden white/tan leather peep-toe pumps, Review black leather platform peep-toes.
I have also been decluttering my closet, including the handbag shelf, and organizing my jewelry and accessories.
I know it’s supposed to get done as part of spring cleaning, but hey, better late than never, right?

This is so bizarre! I’ve spent the weekend doing the same thing (was going to blog about it this morning).
So sad to see such beautiful shoes have to go bye-bye though, but then it makes space for new Jimmy Choos!! lovely choices there!
Have a great week hon (Lets try to meet when you get back from holiday!!)
And you donation box will be mailed to me when exactly? I want to weep for those beautiful shoes. Those Steve Maddens are GORGEOUS!
Um, maybe your donation box could be my closet!!??
I am not the fashionista that you are, so I don’t have tons of shoes, etc. I basically got rid of everything not long ago. It felt SOOO good to be able to start over. And my shoes are now all much cuter than they otherwise would have been had I held on to the other stuff. I hope you enjoy the cleansing!
We’re decluttering, too. Isn’t it just the best feeling?
