I don’t believe in being selfish and self-absorbed – in fact, people like that bug me. But as someone who has the tendency to put others first, I have learned the hard way that I really should make time for myself, too; indulge in something pleasurable that I don’t often treat myself to because I’m too busy taking care of someone else’s needs.
When we say “indulge” we tend to connect it to special treats, especially scrumptious foods or retail therapy. But how about more fulfilling things? Things that really help us fill a void, feel refreshed and happier, and generally make us feel better?
So how about this month you

LOVE THIS!!!!! Seriously, this came at a great time for me. I’ve been trying hard to remind myself to take pleasure in the little things because it always makes my day brighter.
By the way, email me a list of things I should take pictures of for you in NYC! We’ll put those babies on Flickr or snapfish and you can get yourself some prints! Finally talked my husband into letting me take his fancy-schmancy camera. I hope I don’t lose it on the R train.
i whole heartedly agree! this week i’ve indulged by reading 3 books! (i normally take several weeks to finish one) and by going to the pool on my lunch break with my girlfriends.
i hope you share what that moment was for you this week.
Oh I really love this! I love everything that you put together, they are always visually stunning. And I could not agree more with the sentiment here. Taking time for one’s self is so very important. We should not always come last in our own lives. When we nurture ourselves, we become better partners, mothers, friends, etc.
Your inspiration boards are always spot on.
How nice! Those who deserve a break should most certainly find the time to do something for themselves. I must admit that I don’t see myself in this category, I work in enough self-indulgence that I can’t complain that I’m a mum who never gets anything for herself. My mother certainly lived every single moment for me and my three brothers (including twins) and it was impossible for her to have a life with my dad working away from home, that was real sacrifice and in a different league from me, a mum of one who works from home. I don’t think I could have done what she did. I consider it a luxury that I can meet a friend for lunch every couple of weeks, and each morning after I drop my daughter at school I walk home on the beach, take off my shoes and have a stroll through the water. Having something like that as part of your daily routine does absolute wonders for the mind, and it’s good exercise, too! And I love that it costs nothing.

Such an AWESOME reminder to every person out there to love and take care of yourself and that doing both of those things is NOT selfish, rather essential.
This is so inspirational, thank you for giving us all this reminder. It’s so true, just a day with time to enjoy the simple things really leaves you feeling refreshed! I think it’s important to rest, do simple things you enjoy, or even take some time to try something new. This actually reminds me of thoughts I had the other day. I was missing Rome terribly and I sat outside…I heard wind chimes, trees blowing, birds chirping…and I decided to enjoy it and really soak in the moment. I hope you have had time to do some activities that you really enjoy lately!

I love it, lady!
you know what, i WILL
i’m doing it. this saturday is ME day. done and done!
It’s so easy to to take care of others and neglect ourself. I try to make it a priority and someone seems to get in the way.
This is a beautiful post. You’ve done a great job with it. I will be trying to take your advice this weekend, starting this evening. I’ve been wanting to watch a particular film, so I’ll just make that happen and indulge in it. Again, wonderful job. Have a lovely weekend!
By the way, would you care to swap buttons?
Oh yes.
Great post, we all need these reminders!
Love this post! Hope you are doing well!

Hmmm, I think my wallet has been complaining that I’ve been doing a little TOO MUCH indulging the past few weeks hahaha….I’m such a sucker for impulse shopping (and good restaurants) that I swear all the shop clerks light up when I walk in after a long day of work (just to do a little “window shopping” I swear to myself before invariably walking out with a shiny new camera lens or spiffy new suit or something).
Perhaps I need to find a cheaper way to indulge LOL (mmm…. chocolate….)
that sounds like a great idea! Matthew’s bday is next week and that’s what we’re going to do..all his favorite things!!

I needed to read that. Thankyou.
Am currently juggling 12-14 hr workdays (1o-12 hours in the office and the rest at home) running a start-up, a toddler, my in-laws (we live in a joint family) and making time to spend with my mom who’s visiting (one activity I enjoy).
Will make a spa appointment towards the end of July once things have settled down a bit.
An awesome post, but sooooooo true. When my boys were younger and at home, and I worked, not much time for me.. but now, they have left home, my husband works away most of the year, I still work, but I make sure there is me time, but with my friends , not just on my own. Spend too much time on my own, so need to get together with female friends.
Also had a tragedy in the family a few years ago, so there are times when I have to be there for my brother ,and my mum .. and then make sure my mother in law is ok, she lives on her own,, so still around for everyone.
