Ah, sunshine, how I have missed you.

It has been raining a lot lately. A LOT. It’s like the planet is trying to cool itself off with drastic measures, like a menopausal woman with a really bad hot flash. It’s June, dammit!! I need sun! And I really needed a sunny day on Wednesday and Thursday, when my daughter had a sleepover. But they couldn’t go out and play. So they stayed home the.whole.time. And man, that felt like the longest sleepover EVER.

So needless to say, when I saw the weather forecast for today I (after a triumphant “YES!!” ) I had a short conversation with my husband that went a bit like this: “Tomorrow we are going out” “Out where?” “Frankly, I don’t care where. OUT. I’m sure I can come up with a specific plan if you really need it– and that’s when my husband remembered just how crabby his Sardinian wife gets when sunshine-deprived, and stopped asking questions. (I am a joy to have around. Truly.)

When I got up and got visual confirmation (never believe the forecast anymore, do you??) of the gorgeous weather today, I was determined not to waste a single minute of it. So after running a couple of errands, off we went, in the direction of the lake and the flea market in Bürkliplatz.

As it is now tradition,we stopped at Bellevue to feed the ducks and swans

and then kept walking towards the market.

The Flohmarkt (Flea Market) is a seasoned (albeit seasonal) establishment on Saturdays during the summer, and it’s always fun to browse. It’s a hodge podge of merchandise of all types, from knickknacks to old comics to vintage clothes and jewelry (mostly ugly, but occasionally there are a few cute things), to paintings and vintage furniture.

I hardly ever buy anything, but it’s still fun to browse. And today, it was a nice excuse to just be outside.

It’s on days like this that I feel lucky living in Zurich. So hot, and yet the air isn’t heavy with car exhaust. Lots of people (not just because of the sun, but also because of the Gay Pride festival) and yet it’s clean, there’s no garbage on the street or floating in the lake with the ducks and swans.

Gotta hand it to the Swiss, they sure know how to keep it pretty!

I’ve also just returned from a beautiful day out, but not quite such a beautiful scene as you got to enjoy! I’ve thought about how difficult it would be for me to get used to a cold/snowy place but I never gave much thought to the difference in sunshine. I imagine the lack of sun can wear on someone from a very sunny locale.

That looks great! What I wouldn’t give to have an outdoor market in my town. We have nothing like where we can just go and look around. Looks lovely!

You should be able to bottle a bit of that kind of day, to take out in winter. Your pictures look gorgeous.

Today I was all like look a nice sunny day- lets go to the park- and then I was reminded that I live in West Virginia because there was a toddler on the slide in only a diaper- true story. But heck I will sit here and look at these awesome pictures and imagine that I am in Europe somewhere!
