A very happy Un-Birthday to you

Yes, another Alice in Wonderland post. It’s an obsession, I’m telling you. And it has only just begun. Just you wait until I have finished reading the book to the girls, and seen the new movie. But I must first school my disciples.

So today my daughters and I finally watched Alice in Wonderland (the cartoon) together. And now I can’t get the Un-Birthday song out of my head. And I’m thinking how lovely it would be to have a tea party. Invite moms with little girls, get all dressed up, set the table with a pretty tablecloth and flowers, and serve finger sandwiches and cupcakes, and drink out of gorgeous teacups.

Never mind the fact that I am totally neurotic and I am a nervous wreck every time I have guests, making it very difficult to enjoy myself in my efforts to be a gracious, efficient and just all-around perfect hostess. Never mind I don’t know that many moms with daughters here, and I don’t own the kind of lovely vintage clothes that would be perfect for the occasion, nor do I own a beautiful classic tea set (but coffee mugs in all the colors of the rainbow? Check.)

Still, it’s kind of nice to imagine it.

Me and the girls dressed in pretty, kind of old-fashioned outfits. Like a dress-up game, but with real stuff. Cute, over-the-top girly stuff.

A table set with a cheerful tablecloth, a beautiful tea set, and a miniature tea set for the youngest guests.

Platters of miniature tartes, finger sandwiches and cupcakes.

The girls playing on the grass afterwards, in their pretty dresses.

And hey, if I ever decided to stop being a chicken and just do it, it’s not like I didn’t find a gazillion books on the subject when I searched on Amazon.

There may be snow on the ground, but I have something more to look forward to, when spring comes. Or the possibility, at least. That’s already something.

I’m game! Omg! I love those tea cups! I so want pink tea cups! Those are divine! And little cucumber sandwiches would be bliss at the moment! I’m actually having a cup of tea (Earl Grey -my favourite) at the moment (taking a break from cleaning and surfing the net). And I’m actually drinking it out of my most prized tea cup & saucer, it’s an over sized one I bought. Very girly and oh so Alice in Wonderland (that is why I bought it!).
Miniature tea cups, over sized tea cups, never mind the size! Just bring on the tea party!

Okay, I love that blue dress. . . now if only I had somewhere to wear such a thing these days, oh well!

I was just on an Alice in Wonderland kick too and posted some Alice inpired jewelry I came up with on my blog. I think you should go for it, the kids will surely enjoy it. They will love the tea cups and dresses and fun sandwiches and finger food.

I have to get a rental DVD of the movie so my daughter can be familiar with the story. I think the new one coming out is a return to wonderland and will be different.

I love Alice in Wonderland and would LOVE to have a tea party. I have always dreamed of having just the kind of formal tea party you describe with my daughter. I should work on that. Maybe I’ll hit up the Thrift shops and see if I can’t pull together enough fun little pieces to make a tea party. Might find fun clothes there, too.

I absolutely adore that little girl’s dress!

A very happy un-birthday, to you, to you!
I have been watching the videos of Disney’s version on YouTube, as part of “research” for a craft swap I’m involved in. Probably my last swap for a while. We’ll see. Anyway, what did I want to say? Oh yes. You have great taste! LOVE that adult dress. Kiddy ones as well. Do they have them in adult size? Would love to have a tea party. Surely yours would be done with great style!

I LOVE this idea. When we were in London I used to throw an all ages “ladies lunch” every summer for which I picked up some gorgeous pink tea cups and saucers (found in a charity shop for practically nothing) I haven’t done it for the last couple of years but I think you’ve just inspired me to use Alice in Wonderland as the theme for Little Miss’ birthday in August!!

So much fun! Even if you let your neurosis, which I share :) , win out, you and the girls will still have a wonderful time creating it. If/when you do, I hope you share photos of the outfits.

Alice in Wonderland is one of my top 10 books, along with The Little Prince. I am so excited for the movie. I hope more Alice inspired clothes and home goods will come out. 2 weeks ago I found a bright, Kodak yellow night table at IKEA, that screams Alice. I think it was 69 CHF and I love it. I couldn’t find it online and we did have to get it at the “Warenausgabe” place next to the parking exit from IKEA, so I hope they’re not running out. It cheers me up a lot. I’ll email a couple of pics.

I also love this bouquet. I think it has Alice flair, though also enters Snow White territory. I hope to make one for my small justice of the peace wedding this Spring.

ADORE!! I often joke around that when my husband and I start a family I’ll be praying we get a brood of boys, but I must admit that your post really makes me want to cross my fingers for girls! Frilly dresses and TEA PARTIES – I can’t imagine anything more fun!! I love me a good dress-up/theme party…

Love this post! Tea parties are my favourite kind of party to throw. How I wish I had a girl to dress up in those delicious frou-frou dresses!

I think I would have to wait for a tea party although maybe not for the clothes. I bought my two year old a play tea set and she broke all the cups, so I will not let her near my vintage tea sets that I collect. As a matter of fact they are packed up because I so don’t trust them. I should send them to you!

I would love, love, love to have a tea party! Granted, my daughter’s a bit young yet, but the frilly dresses, the finger sandwiches…all that sounds like too much fun.

I do hope she’s a girly girl…

I played Alice in Alice in Wonderland in High School — so there has always been an Alice obsession in these parts. We were all Alice characters for Halloween (hubby and me were Tweedles) and those un-birthday parties you mention? Yeah, doing that sort of stuff is pretty much why I had kids in the first place.

Rock on, Alice!

You would go nuts for my mother. She has a tea party every 3 months. They are themed, and my mother is an impeccable perfectionist with amazing style and taste and ability to decorate. Her tables are incredible, and the food she makes is always amazing. The guests dress appropriately. It’s a great time.
