Outfit of the week: let it snow, I’m still going out

It started snowing in Zurich. The weather forecast says that it will be below 0°C all week, and we can probably expect more snow. This kind of temperature is fairly normal for December – in fact, the weather has been surprisingly mild most of November, so in a way it was about time, I guess.

I don’t mind the cold, but I am not a huge fan of snow. Sure, it looks pretty. At first. Then it becomes a muddy mess.  And in the in-between stage, it gets all ice and slippery. Although in Switzerland they are pretty good about salting the streets, it still isn’t really wise to go around in heels right now. So when staying home cuddled up in my velour tracksuit and pashmina with a cup of hot cocoa (or Ovomaltine ;-) ) isn’t an option, this is my kind of outfit for braving the elements while out and about:

OOTW: let it snow

A pair of comfortable boots is a must – if you want to stay warm and avoid sliding down the pavement but you also don’t want to look like a yeti, try something with a wedge, possibly with a non-slip bottom.

Pair them with a well-shaped, soft sweater dress, that will make you feel cozy but also appropriately dressed for the office or to meet friends for coffee, and a pair of woolen tights, so your legs stay warm.

A puffer coat will keep you dry and toasty, and because you choose warm but relatively thin layers over tons of clothes, it won’t prevent you from moving around comfortably – I hate that about winter clothes and I try to avoid it at all costs!

Last but not least, add some fun accessories to help you keep warm: a cute hat and gloves, and perhaps a colorful scarf, to brighten up your outfit a little. If you like, grab a bag in a similar shade as the scarf, but try to pick something with a strap long enough to be work cross-body, as shoulder straps tend to slide down puffer coats. And make sure it’s something that won’t get ruined if it gets wet, like coated canvas or satin-like nylon (like in the Botkier Sasha).

Off you go, fashionably warm for comfortable :-)

How about you? How is the weather where you live? What’s your Winter must have?

But what should I wear if I WANT to look like a yeti?! Hehehe. Just kidding. Love this outfit – but not sure I can pull off a sweater vest. It did make me want to get boots JUST like the ones above though – I have nothing even close!

It’s been chilly (30s and 40s) and RAINY here in Jersey forever. Today, and yesterday the sun finally shone through. Looks like it will for awhile – hurrah. I, however, would love to live somewhere with proper snowfalls year round. We haven’t had more than an inch or two in years! So sad!

My winter must have is my almost ankle length down coat – I wear it walking the dog (over my pjs) every morning and evening!

I have recently discovered leg-warmers…because honestly tights are not enough…so wearing a pair of mary janes and a matching pair of leg-warmers is perfect when driving the car. But if it snows I opt for bogs and thinsulate gloves – matching with scarf and snow cap.
I like this post, I need more!Being a MAH makes me feel I need only to wear pajamas and slippers even when going out….

I absolutely love the shoes! I would love to have a pair of those. Here in Rockford, Illinois the current temperature is 12. Yesterday the low was -1. We had 12 inches of snow last week. I love the snow! During this weather I love snuggling on the coach, drinking hot chocolate in front of the fireplace, and watching a movie.

It has been too cold for my liking, unfortunately. 20′s & 30′s. I wish it were warmer to be honest. I don’t like my feet and hands freezing cold. Snow is pretty but only in movies..LOL

Uh, let’s see…the coat, the hat, the scarf, the boots…the BAG…and on and on it goes!! It is FREEZING here….like zero degrees and we’ve got about six inches of snow on the ground with more on the way, but I just got a brand new beautiful black microfiber long parka today and it is WARM! Sooooooo happy! Honestly, I hate the cold!!

It was 5 F this morning. I didn’t go running. I’m hoping Zurich is warmer. And I just bought some waterproof wedge boots, so go me!

I want every item in that picture, especially the purple things. :) I miss my puffy coat. I looked like a marshmallow when I lived in upstate NY. My word, it was cold there. I do not miss the sludgy snow ick, but I’m not crazy about the fact that it was 63 degrees here yesterday either.

We’ve just had our first snow today. I also like to keep warm. I’m afraid for me that means trousers, though. I have trouble finding woolly tights for my height.
