The birthday post, part 2: the showoff

I’m late. With this post, I mean. Loukia and Jessica already have theirs up, I had one too early and now one almost (but not quite!) too late

So here’s mine:

Why I’m happy to be one year older: because the past year has been amazing! I traveled, met wonderful people, had some great experiences… this year didn’t go by without anything special in it. It was chock-full of special things. This wasn’t a wasted year. This was a good one

Best birthday memory: I’m not really into big parties when my birthday rolls around. I prefer to just take some time out of our busy lives and pause and just enjoy a nice day or a nice evening with my family, maybe a few friends. I also don’t love surprises, but I’m always touched by the fact that the person took the time to plan one for me!

So my favorite birthday memory is of one time, about 5 years ago, that Sascha planned a whole evening to celebrate my birthday and I had no idea what we were going to do. We drove to Lucerne, went to the movies, then he took me to a new Thai restaurant (one of my fave cuisines) where he had reserved a table, and where we had a fantastic dinner. After dinner we went to a beach bar and we enjoyed a glass of wine (a beer for him) while we watched the sunset over the lake. It may sound sappy, but it was really lovely, romantic and very chilled. I felt like he thought exactly about what I would like, and  loved that

Reason I like the month I was born in: because it’s still warm but not scorching hot. Because after summer vacation, school starts, and so does everything else. It’s like a 2nd New Year.

My goal for the coming year: I always have these accomplishment attacks on my birthday. This year I don’t. Still, there is room for improvement, so this is what I want to be happy about and feel like I accomplished, come my next birthday: I want to get in shape, I want to make a life for myself and my family here in Zurich, I want to spend quality time with each member of my family individually as well as all together, I want to take care of myself not only physically but mentally and emotionally. Oh, and I want to go to BlogHer10 and sneak in a visit to the wonderful friends I left in NY!

What would I do with a free pass from my life for 24 hours: I don’t really feel like I need a free pass from my life for 24 hours. I feel like I already got that when I attended BlogHer09

And then… the present, as promised. I’m really really excited about my gifts this year, which is why I’m sharing them here.
