Random bits after a week or so back in Switzerland – or a list-like answer to “How do you like it there Elisa?”
The good:
- public transportation
- the bread
- the lake and everything to do with it
- the weather. warm, but not suffocatingly so.
- everything is SO clean!
- everything is so small. The building are short. You can see the sky
The bad:
- the prices
- the language (Dude. I have to speak German again. Kill me now.)
- everything is small. Lilliputian even. (Including our temporary apartment. Gah.)
The ugly:
- black socks with white tennis shoes
- Converse All Stars (the 90s called, they want their shoes back)
- shoes, period. The ugliest I have ever seen. (They are everywhere. Aaaargh!)
- bleached yellow-blondish highlights and 80s haircuts (And my hair seems to have gone all whacko out of sympathy.)
Other than that, things are ok. If you send me a care package, please include cute shoes. I’ll be forever grateful. And I’ll send chocolate back.

This post was awesome and such a great summary, Elia! Haha! Okay, it is gorgeous where you are and you’re close to Milan so you can go buy shoes there. So cool that you can speak German, too!

That’s so tragic about the shoes. Maybe you can take this opportunity to educate the less fashionable.
I miss having you closer– not that it really matters, but still… You feel so far.

Love your blog! I can’t imagine being surrounded by hideous shoes and 80s haircuts… I think I would fall over dead.

I am shocked the fashion is so out of whack there! It’s Europe! I thought they were all the epitome of fashion. Oh well. At least you have great bread. And chocolate, right!

I think the hair thing may be ok this year, I guess the 80′s are coming back. At the mall today I swear I saw the same dress I wore to my 8th grade dinner dance (circa 1989), true story.
Sounds great apart from the German speaking and the 80′s obsessed people lacking fashion sense. Also, may I just point out that Switzerland is NOT a good indication of European style!!

I’m not very fashion-y but that even makes me cringe!
The small space thing though, I don’t know how I’d deal with that!
Well, I have several pairs of all stars, so I am so totally going to blend! Squee! Except, it seems, not with you. Don’t worry: I will bring some rock me Amadeus shoes, too, in case we meet.
Lilliputian is one of my favorite words in the world, by the way.

I suppose if I needed confirmation that it was time to get rid of my converse, I’ve got it now! A country of ugly, hideous shoes – who knew? Hope you have a great time, despite your cons. The good bread has to make up for something!

The chocolate. Oh the chocolate. And the bread. But oh the chocolate. I’d wear converse and stripe my hair if it meant I could live that close to all that chocolate. Hmmmmm.
So glad you made it safely

I had a look at
http://www.zuerich.com/en/page.cfm/zurich/shopping/shops?subcat=Shoppingshoes&category=ShoppingByCategoryZH
and well…guess the brand stores and everyday look are two different things; lands above and around Italy seem to be more “practical oriented” – or just not really able to match colors (years of religious Reforms that were putting the stress on simplicity and not on luxus??maybe?yeah, that must be it).
Funny anyway, I had to survive the same as I moved to Berlin -and I still can’t stand some heads that look like choco-vanilla cookies.
Put some dark sun-glasses.
And “Schweitzer Deutsch” that’s bad, omg, but German itself is a wonderful language – is there a chance that you speak this instead?or do they prefer the national language?mmhhh…
Viel Glück und viel Spaß – du bist immer ganz witzig!!
This post has inspired me. I’m gonna do a Good/Bad/Ugly, too, in the future.
Isn’t German a romance language?? Ooh la la… er Ein Bier bitte, I mean.
