Cool Finds of the Month: August 2009

cool_finds2009Here are the cool finds for the month of August! This is one of my favorite editions so far – I hope you’ll like it too.

You already know I love Igigi. (And the Helena dress is still the single piece of clothing I get the most compliments on.) And I know many of you were excited to find a line of plus-size clothing that’s really flattering to our curves. What’s even more exciting? The Igigi back-to-school sale, so you can find gorgeous styles at affordable prices and get ready to dazzle your college classmates… or the better-than-thou PTA moms ;-)

I’m not very much into celebrity clothing collections, but Kate Moss’s line for Topshop is definitely the exception. The new Fall/Winter Kate Moss for Topshop Collection launched yesterday online and will be available in stores on Monday. I love the edgy touches, and also love that the collection always includes many different pieces, from dresses and tops to blazers and jumpsuits.

Ah, shoes. If you have been reading this blog for a while, you know that while I love fashion in general, I’m partial to shoes and bags. Unfortunately many designer shoes are out of my budget most of the time – and even when they are not, some of the one I love most, like Louboutins, are way too narrow for my foot. Enter Cleo B, a just-launched line from the UK, which I found thanks to DailyCandy. Featuring classic shapes made more interesting by a vintage feel and an edgy touch, this line promises to cure my “man, I miss Nordstrom” nostalgia. Sure, the prices are still not quite for an everyday purchase, but they are much more affordable than other equally beautiful and well-made shoes. I currently have my eye on the Paradise wedge (pictured here). These fabulous shoes are available online at CleoB.com, or if you are lucky enough to be in London, at Dover Street Market, 17-18 Dover Street, W1S 4LT (020 7518 0680).

If you like to keep your guest bathroom stocked with cute, natural products, or if you need some ideas on what to include in an organic gift basket, check out the Nostalgia line of Organic bath and body products. They have really lovely, old-fashioned packaging, with their organic soaps available packaged in recycled pattern paper, or organic cotton sacks. You can find them at Beauty Spirit Lounge , where they are currently available on special offer, to launch this lovely line. And if you use coupon code NOSTALGIA at checkout, you’ll get free shipping, as well.

We like changing hair styles, but not learning whole new styling routine. Here’s something to simplify our life: HerCut just came out with a line of products specific to each of the most popular hairstyles. Your choices: The Bob, Long Layers, The Shag, The Blunt, The Pixie. Choose our hair catalyst and save time trying to replicate that “just out of the salon” look :-) (via VitalJuice)

One of the best Back-to-School offers I’ve heard to date: until Sept. 8, Apple will is give away a free iPod Touch to all students and teachers who purchase a Mac computer, laptop or desktop. (via PopSugar)

On a different topic, here’s something for the whole family: IHOP’s  national ‘Kids Eat Free’ dinner promotion! Every day until September 13, between 4pm and 10p, kids will receive one free kid’s meal with each adult entrée purchase. And easy solution for those evenings when you really don’t feel like making dinner, or (like I often do) you forgot to take something out of the freezer on time ;-)

Cool finds, thank you! I’m a first-time commenter…I like your blog!

I live in NYC, and I do love living here. But sometimes we think about getting out and finding a place not far from the city where we can have a house and a backyard….sighhh. One day. Maybe. But I would miss NYC if we leave. It’s such a hard decision!

Anyway, I look forward to reading more!
