Definitely go with the self cleaning floors if you find them. And if you find them, sell them to us back in America because you will make a fortune! My last house had the dark wood floors. It should work like an escalator, where the dirty floor moves underneath to reveal clean floor. Meanwhile the under-floor would be soaking in a cleaning solution. It could be done whenever necessary, or left in continual-motion mode for the days when the children will! not! stop tracking in mud and sand. .-= Swistle´s last blog ..Hats, Cups =-.

I too daydream of owning a home…once we sell the one that we own already! But I’m so with you on the tiles floors…LOVE them. Self cleaning floors…how does that even work? I’m gonna miss you and hate that you’re moving.

My first house had deep, rich, dark hardwood floors and I so loved them. The house became way too small for our growing family and so we moved. Now I have a herringbone patterned real brick floor in the house. It would not be ideal for a cold climate, but it is perfect for the warm weather of Orange County. It's also bullet proof with kids and dogs. (The brick has a sealant on it so stains don't absorb into the brick.) We have tile and wood which looks good, but not with the layer of dust and cat hair! I’d even settle for a ride on floor sweeper!
