And to think I liked her so much
… Lou just tagged me, darn it. And you just know I have to post. AND I have to tag 4 more people, so get ready ’cause you might just be one of them… muhahahahaha!
No, but seriously: this is how it works, I use the official graphic for this MeMe and I tell you7 things about me that you don’t know. They are supposed to be 7 awesome things, or at least 7 cool things, but I’m just going for 7 things, you be the judge of how lame or how cool they are, mmmkay?
Ok, here we go:
1. I used to have a pierced belly button, and while I was pregnant with Stella I even bought a pregnancy barbell so I could leave it on. (Which ended up stretching the piercing, but that part isn’t even remotely cool so we’ll leave it out.)
2. Since I left home, I have lived in the following cities: Milan (Italy); Los Angeles, CA; Copenhagen (Denmark); Zurich (Switzerland) and now Westchester, a.k.a. “where NYers go to live after they have kids and they are no longer happy with a 1-bedroom apartment”. (Cue angry mob of NYers here.)
3. In part to avoid a reenactment of My Big Fat Greek Wedding (except it’d be Italian), in part because I didn’t want to wait until I could take time off, I got married away from home (far, far away), in Los Angeles. And no one in my family could attend because of the travel expenses and the short notice. And I wasn’t really heartbroken, because there was no one to tell me what to wear, what music to play, what food to serve. So I got to wear a white miniskirt+jacket set and white platform t-strap pumps with a 5-inch heel, and play “Unchained Melody” while I walked down the isle. (In my defense, I was 21 and it was the 90s.)
4. I’m the main caretaker in a multilingual family: I speak Italian with my daughters and English with my husband. He, who is from the German part of Switzerland, speaks German to them. It can be a pain in the butt but it pays off – which brings me to
5. My oldest daughter Sarah now speaks German, Italian and English. German is her mother tongue and she occasionally makes grammar mistakes while speaking English or Italian, but she’s pretty fluent. Stella, on the other hand, speaks mostly Italian, but she speaks German with her sister and father, and has a small repertoire of sentences/expressions that pop out just when it’s funniest
(ok, so I cheated a little bit – this not, strictly speaking, about me)
5. I love the beach, especially at home, in Sardinia, where the sand is white and soft and the water is a gorgeous shade of blue-green and you can see the bottom. Also, a great thing about the Mediterranean: the water is never freezing cold. I love the beach so much I’m happy to walk barefoot on it even in winter. The sound of the waves is very relaxing.
6. I am a good cook, but I’m still working on my baking. I was basically a beginning baker 2 years ago, now I’m a lot better. Had to bake lots of muffins and stuff to practice. Which partially accounts for the size of my butt.
7. I have come up with the best recipe for agave-sweetened, wheat- and dairy-free chocolate coconut cupcakes. Seriously, it’s awesome. Almost as awesome as my Tiramisù. Which is why these are the only two recipes I don’t share with anyone. A gal has got to have a secret weapon!
Now, for the fun part: I’m tagging Jill, Donna, Lindsay and Renee.
Sorry ladies, had to be done

That’s awsome that your kids are multilingual.
It has been awhile since I have done a meme. So I guess I will participate. By the way, those are amazing things about you!
LOL about Westchester. I always say we moved to Westchester when our child kicked us out of our one-bedroom apartment (and a two bedroom house was cheaper than a two bedroom apartment).
